PA: Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board seeks K-12 posters in alcohol awareness contest

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is encouraging students in grades K-12 to enter its 26th annual Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest.
Students can submit entries individually or through their schools, clubs or Scout troops. Entries must be postmarked by Nov. 17 and must include a clear message opposing underage use of alcohol. Officials encouraged students to use positive messages and images.
New this year, the PLCB is providing a sample lesson plan educators can use to teach students about the dangers of underage drinking.
Data indicates children as young as 8 may be “trying a drink and even drinking on a somewhat regular basis,” PLCB Chairman Tim Holden said. “It’s important for parents and educators to be talking with children early and often about alcohol, and this poster contest is a fun and creative way to begin those conversations.”
Each year, a panel of judges selects about 50 posters for recognition. Several students will receive a $100 prize and one student from each grade will receive $50.
Creators of the chosen entries will be notified and invited to a Harrisburg ceremony in April, which is Alcohol Awareness Month. Some of the winning designs may be reproduced and distributed across the state.
