NC: Repeat fake ID users face loss of real license
August 26, 2019
GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – There is a new focus on repeat offenders who use fake identification to buy alcohol and get into nightclubs and bars in the city of Greenville and Pitt County.
Repeat offenders will now face losing their real driver’s license if caught breaking the law.
Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) Supervisory Agent Eric Swain said the ALE partnered with ECU, Greenville Police, Pitt County ABC Enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office to reduce underage drinking in Pitt County.
Swain said law enforcement agencies have caught underage drinkers using fake IDs multiple times, but the offenders were not given any real consequences for breaking the law.
“If a student or anyone lose those driving privileges it will really make a big difference. They will recognize that we mean business,” said Swain.
It will be up to the courts to decide how long offenders lose their licenses. Law enforcement will also report incidents involving students to ECU for disciplinary review.
