One man learned the hard way that trying to open a wine bottle with a blow torch was a big Merlot no-no.
The man and his friend, from Chicago, proudly filmed themselves trying the crazy hack, not knowing they would go viral for all the wrong reasons.
In the clip the man stands at a kitchen counter with a big bottle of Gallo Family red wine and a blow torch ready to go.
‘How to open a bottle of wine,’ his friend behind the camera formally announces as he turns the torch on.
The man holds the blue flame to the neck of the bottle and gives the wine a spin as his cameraman laughs in delight.
He continues to torch the cork for 16 seconds, aiming it toward the top of the bottle when it suddenly explodes.
Glass goes flying everywhere as the neck of the bottle shatters, sending the man ducking for cover.
The cameraman yelps before bursting out into laughter.
‘That’s how you open a bottle of wine,’ he declares.
‘You okay?’ he then asks his friend, who still has his hand over his heart in shock from the moment.
But the men laugh as it becomes clear they are both, luckily, unharmed.
The cameraman then zooms in on the bottle of wine, which is still full and intact except for the shattered neck.
‘I got it on camera,’ he tells his friend proudly as he shows off their results.
