WASHINGTON (ABC7) — To help keep drunk drivers off the roads, the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is offering free rides via Lyft throughout the D.C. area during the holiday season.
WRAP’s annual Holiday SoberRide program will be in effect from 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. from Friday, December 15 through Monday, January 1, according to a statement from the organization.
Individuals, 21 and over, who have been drinking alcohol can use the Lyft app and enter a SoberRide code in the Promo section to get a safe ride home (up to $15). Promo codes will be posted weekly at 2 p.m. on December 15, 23, and 31, at www.SoberRide.com, according to the statement.
SoberRide will be available in Lyft’s D.C. coverage area in D.C., Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland, and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties in Virginia.
“Last December, nearly a thousand (911) Greater Washington residents did the right thing and availed themselves of this lifesaving service rather than possibly driving home impaired,” said Kurt Gregory Erickson, WRAP’s President.
According to WRAP:
Sponsors of this year’s Holiday SoberRide campaign include the 395 Express Lanes, AAA Mid-Atlantic, Anheuser-Busch, Brown-Forman, Constellation Brands, Diageo, District of Columbia Association of Beverage Alcohol Wholesalers, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Giant Food, Glory Days Grill, Heineken, Lyft, MillerCoors, Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, Volkswagen Group of America and the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association.
