  1. MICHAEL, N.D. — The Spirit Lake Tribal Council is looking at allowing alcohol to be served at its casino on Devils Lake.

A vote had been scheduled for Tuesday, but the council delayed the vote for further review after some on the reservation in northeast North Dakota had objected, according to the Devils Lake Journal.

Spirit Lake has been alcohol-free since a vote decades ago.

Supporters say it could provide more revenue that could mean more jobs and expansion at the casino and resort on the southern shores of Devils Lake..

The council also said a portion of the funding would go to funding an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center on the reservation.

The casino would be the only site on the reservation that would be permitted to sell and serve alcohol.

The Sioux tribe recently banned smoking in most of the casino, the first in the state. However, the casino still has an enclosed smoking room on the gaming floor.
