NORWALK, Conn., May 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Diageo, the global leader in beverage alcohol, announced today the public launch of an online e-learning module called DRINKiQ designed to provide consumers with the information they need to make informed decisions about drinking responsibly. The module, which was originally a live interactive training used by Diageo for several years to educate employees and with external partners, is now available on Diageo’s DRINKiQ website at https://www.DRINKiQ.com/en-us/DRINKiQ-course/whats-your-drink-iq/. The module is available now in the UK, U.S. and Australia, with localized versions rolling out to 20 other countries.
“Responsible drinking is part of everything we do at Diageo and bringing this DRINKiQ e-learning module to the public is a natural next step in giving consumers more information about alcohol and how it affects the body,” said Jon Pageler, EVP of Corporate Relations for Diageo North America. “Our goal is to continue to enhance the experience our consumers have with our brands – even when that means making a choice not to drink.”
The new, mobile-friendly tool uses interactive learning and tests to give people information about:
- What is in your drink? A user-friendly tool that helps estimate alcohol content in different beverages
- Background on what alcohol is, how it is processed and the different ways it can affect the body
- Tips for tracking intake both when entertaining at home and socializing when out
- Interactive exercises that demonstrate how to pour a standard measure of beer, wine and spirits
Dispelling Common Myths about Alcohol
Diageo has been providing face-to-face DRINKiQ training to groups around the world for over a decade, including members of U.S. Congress, the Ministry of Health in countries such as Peru, law enforcement officials in countries including Thailand, taxi drivers in markets such as Ethiopia, as well as bartenders and hospitality workers globally.
“We have found that information is essential in empowering consumers to drink responsibly and moderately,” said Dr. Danielle Robinson, Director of Alcohol Policy and Reputation Management for Diageo North America. “For those who choose to consume alcohol, these resources reveal the units and calories in various alcoholic drinks. It is perfect for anyone who wants to better understand what they are drinking so they can make smarter choices.”
The U.S. Institute for Health and Productivity Management (IHPM) and WorkPlace Wellness Alliance (WPWA) also recommends the DRINKiQ e-learning module as an engaging and easy-to-use educational tool which provides essential knowledge about the effects of drinking in order to guide appropriate and safe use of alcohol.
“We previewed Diageo’s DRINKiQ tool at our Global Steering Group and Business Leadership Council, where it received an enthusiastic endorsement for tackling a critical but long-neglected issue in the workplace,” said Sean Sullivan, JD, President and CEO of IHPM/WPWA. “IHPM recommends DRINKiQ as an engaging and easy-to-use educational tool for any employer to incorporate in its employee wellness program. It provides essential knowledge about the effects of drinking in order to guide appropriate and safe use of alcohol.”
In addition to this launch, Diageo is continuing to help educate consumers and raise collective knowledge about alcohol through:
- Making DRINKiQ e-learning freely available to employers of people who serve and sell alcohol
- Introducing alcohol content, serving size and nutritional information on-pack for its brands around the world
- Providing alcohol content and nutritional information for each of Diageo’s brands on their global responsible drinking website, DRINKiQ.com in 13 languages
