A Back Bay liquor store is at risk of losing its license after state officials found more than 100 minors in possession or attempting to purchase alcohol from the business over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Investigators with the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission were stationed at Quality Mart, located at 21 Massachusetts Ave. in Boston, over the weekend. While at the business, they found “122 minors in possession, transporting or attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages and 112 individuals in possession of false identification,” according to a statement released Monday from the office of the state treasurer, which oversees the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.
134 bottles of wine and spirits and 49 cases of beer were seized from customers between the ages of 18 and 20 years old, according to the state treasurer’s office.
Investigators target businesses that historically have “serious problems with underage kids purchasing alcoholic beverages with a false id or through adults buying alcoholic beverages for them,” according to the treasurer’s office.
The owner of the Quality Mart has been charged with selling alcohol to minors and summonsed to appear before the alcohol commission.
